In a statement on the ASX, Sydney Airport CEO Geoff Culbert said they had experienced an exceptional international passenger traffic growth of 11.1 per cent during the March holiday period.

“This was contributed in part by an earlier Easter holiday period for 2018 compared to 2017,” he said.

“During this period, we had a capacity growth of 7.5 per cent (more than 120,000 additional seats) and a 2.3 percentage point increase in average load factors above the prior corresponding period.”

Culbert said the nationalities with the greatest contribution to the airport’s international performance over the March Holiday season were Indian, with a 28.2 percent increase, Chinese, with a 19.9 percent increase, South Korean, with a 15.2 per cent increase and the USA with a 14.3 per cent increase.

“This is a pleasing performance from some of our largest markets and is a direct result of increasing seat capacity,” he said.

Domestic also saw a robust growth, according to Culbert, with a 3.5 per cent increase.

“We are delighted that during the month, Skytrax named Sydney Airport as the top airport in the Asia/Pacific region by customers participating in one of the largest global customer satisfaction surveys,” added Culbert.

“This level of recognition is a testimony to the work the team has undertaken to improve the customer experience at Sydney Airport.”
