“Staff were screaming”: Perth-Bali flight nightmare

An AirAsia flight travelling from Perth to Bali carrying 145 people on board was forced to turn back only 25 minutes after take-off due to a technical error.

Passengers and crew on board Flight QZ535 were apparently left terrified when the plane suddenly began losing cabin pressure and as a result plummeted 20,000 feet, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.

Flyers were told to take the brace position and use oxygen masks, with some passengers admitting they thought the plane would crash.

Speaking to Perth Now, passenger Clare Askew said it was the crew’s reaction to the event that had everyone on-board fearful.

“The panic was escalated because of the behaviour of staff who were screaming, looked tearful and shocked.”

“Now, I get it, but we looked to them for reassurance and we didn’t get any, we were more worried because of how panicked they were,” she added.

Dramatic footage recorded by one the passengers features a crew member telling everyone to, “get down”.

Following the successful landing of the plane, AirAsia released a statement saying:

“The safety of our guests is our utmost priority. AirAsia Indonesia apologises for any inconvenience caused.”
