Selma puts a spotlight on Alabama

Selma puts a spotlight on Alabama

A select group of Australian tour operators and media were invited to a pre-screening of the Oscars-buzz worthy film, Selma.

Hosted by Alabama Tourism, (represented by Kent Marketing in Australia), the group enjoyed the thought provoking movie set in Selma and the State’s Capital, Montgomery as it documents the civil rights movement led by Dr Martin Luther King.

In contrast, 50 years on, Alabama is now a destination welcoming to all travellers interested in history, music and its expansive sporting facilities with the state boasting 11 championship golf courses.

February also marks the “Black History Month” across the USA, Canada and UK. US president Barrack Obama is expected to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Selma march later this year.
