Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing has released its 2014 Annual Visitor Report at the start of  its annual ATM 2015, which kicked off with formal proceedings yesterday.

The report, a combination of metrics, trends and insights, has shown just how much Dubai’s tourism industry has expanded.

The report revealed a rapid 8.2 per cent growth in international visitors for Dubai from 2013-2014. Dubai welcomed 13.2 million international overnight travellers in 2014, moving them closer towards Dubai’s Tourism Vision for 20 million visitors by 2020. The results came as a measurement of all international visitors, staying for at least one night at hotels, holiday rentals, with friends and family or on board cruise ships.

Amongst other results, Australia rose to number two as a leading visitor with visa-on-arrival. The key market for Dubai remains family-centric travel, with families making up 47% of Dubai’s total tourists.

His Excellency Helal Saeed Almarri, Director-General of DTCM has said that growth is a strong reflection of Dubai’s growing appeal as a tourism destination.

Travel Weekly are at ATM in Dubai and will be reporting daily with updates from the show floor.
