Qantas to host a domestic beauty pageant

Qantas is on the hunt for a new face of its domestic flights, and yes, we’re already in the process of submitting our entry.

The “beauty pageant”, which will run over the next few years, will see Qantas looking for a new aircraft to replace its older Boeing 737-800s for domestic travel.

So, in case you haven’t worked out already, they’re looking for new planes, not people.

There goes our shot at fame.

According to The Australian, Qantas is already looking at the possibility of using the 737 MAX and the Airbus A320neo, with CEO Alan Joyce claiming they’re looking for a “new mid-sized aeroplane”.

“We have to look at what the retirement of the 737s looks like,” Mr Joyce told The Australian from the Boeing facility in Seattle. A competition would be held “over the next couple of years”.

New plane orders are usually made quite a few years in advance, being that the life cycle of a plane is so long.

The 737-800s have been carrying domestic passengers since 2002, with the apparent average life-span of a plane or fleet usually lasting 8.7 years.

The news follows Qantas’ unveiling the first aircraft from the new Dreamliner fleet, Great Southern Land.
