Pet peacock banned from flight

Ok, so here’s a strange one.

A woman’s pet peacock has been banned from boarding a United Airlines flight in America.

Don’t worry, we’re just as confused as you.

The traveller originally requested to bring the bird on the flight as it was an emotional support peacock.

The event unfolded at Newark Liberty International Airport and was captured by multiple, equally as confused onlookers.

According to different American news sites, the unidentified woman attempted to buy a secondary ticket to her own for the bird, however United denies this.

In a statement from the airline, a United spokesperson said: “This animal did not meet guidelines for a number of reasons, including its weight and size. We explained this to the customers on three separate occasions before they arrived at the airport.”

The incident follows a controversial tightening of restrictions by Delta on emotional support animals on flights.

Earlier this week, Delta Senior VP of Corporate Safety, Security and Compliance John Laughter said in a statement: “The rise in serious incidents involving animals in flight leads us to believe that the lack of regulation in both health and training screening for these animals is creating unsafe conditions across U.S. air travel.”

“As a leader in safety, we worked with our Advisory Board on Disability to find a solution that supports those customers with a legitimate need for these animals, while prioritizing a safe and consistent travel experience,” he added.
