Passenger restrained after trying to open cabin door mid-flight

A woman was arrested in the US after attempting to open a cabin door onboard an airborne Delta Air Lines flight from Indianapolis to Detroit.

Detroit Free Press reported that after the incident the woman was restrained by other passengers until the plane landed in Michigan at about 6:45 p.m local time, Monday.

“As of now, it appears she did not have any criminal intent, and instead may be suffering from a medical issue. However, this is based on preliminary reports,” Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport spokesperson Erica Donerson said.

The flight was operated by Indianapolis-based Republic Airways.

“We’re aware of an incident which occurred on our Flight 5972 on Monday evening,” Republic Airways spokesperson Jon Austin said.

“While we can confirm that the flight landed without incident and ahead of schedule, we’re unable to further comment as this matter is still being investigated. We apologize to any passengers who were affected by this incident.”

Donerson said the Federal Bureau of Investigation is investigating the incident.
