Ovolo unveils transformed Sydney hotels

The transformation of Ovolo’s two Sydney properties is now complete with the hotelier confident the Woolloomooloo and Pyrmont hotels will trump the “same, stale style” of rival hotel chains.

Ovolo Woolloomooloo, formerly Blue, and Ovolo 1888 Darling Harbour, formerly owned by 8Hotels, both joined the Hong Kong-based company’s ranks in 2014, alongside Melbourne property Ovolo Laneways.

All properties have undergone an overhaul with emphasis on both technology and locally inspired design, as the company strives to create hotels that represent the “future of hospitality”, each with “their own signature”.

“Since 2002, we’ve been on a mission to redefine modern hospitality by creating new and intuitive concepts that deliver from the customers’ point of view,” founder and chief executive Girish Jhunjhnuwal said.

“It’s an honour to now own and operate two of the most iconic landmarks in the great city of Sydney.”

Ovolo Woolloomooloo will also house a “high-end” modular event centre currently set to open in early 2016.

The new properties are part of an “aggressive brand expansion” across Australia, Jhunjhnuwal said upon the acquisition of the Woolloomooloo property from the India-based Taj Hotel Group in 2014.
