Oman is… Wild at heart

Oman is… Wild at heart

Open a door to Oman, step over the threshold and you’ll feel the very real privilege of being invited into an Omani oasis.

You have arrived in a country that has generous hospitality in its DNA, an attribute intrinsically connected to the customs and traditions of its Bedouin people.

Wanderers by nature, they formed relationships with strangers for survival on their nomadic travels.

We explore the key pillars that you will find when you open a door to Oman.

Wild at Heart

And why wouldn’t you wander. Oman’s elements are astonishing, whether it’s the land underfoot, the soft desert sand, the oases that spring up around cool water, even its treasured wildlife. It is a visceral visual experience.

Water is more startling when unexpectedly found in stark environs like these. One of the most beautiful places in the country is the Bimmah Sinkhole, the embodiment of a desert oasis, a little over 2 hours from the capital, Muscat.

It’s gaping, limestone mouth is more than 40 metres in width and 20 metres deep. Photographs rarely do it justice, but visitors are encouraged to descend the steps to the water’s edge deep below the sinkhole rim and dive right in.

Fins Beach will subvert your expectations of Oman, with bleached sand and pale blue water it could be compared to Australia’s own Hyams Beach.  The difference is, you can camp on this one.

Other coastal treasures are the sea turtles that migrate to Oman to lay their eggs under the shroud of night. A sanctuary at Ras al Jinz allows you to witness this phenomenon silently by torchlight.

Oman is also a local treasure, a grand adventurefull of ancient paths, and a place of total indulgence.
