Oh deer! A lost buck gets stuck in Italian resort shop

Red deer stag (Cervus elaphus). This is either a hart (a male in its fifth year) or a full-grown red deer stag in its sixth year. It does not yet have the full rack of antlers necessary to defend a group of females.

A worker at an Italian resort’s clothing shop had an “oh deer!” moment when a lost buck was found loitering among the store’s clothes.

The Associated Press report a “dazed” and “confused” deer has been found in a trendy clothing store at the mountain resort of Cortina d’Ampezzo – found on the Italian Dolomites.

Local authorities said Tuesday the deer, thought to be four or five years old, entered the shop – which specialises in tirolese outfits – while the assistant was away, and got trapped inside among the clothes.

Footage of the deer’s rescue has also emerged online.

Luckily, the buck looked the part among the clothes with an au naturale tiara. Not really, but with its antlers draped in greenery, we think the deer doesn’t look out of place at all.

Due to the incident, the local shopping street was blocked for a few hours by authorities while the deer was saved and freed.

Authorities told AP it was necessary to cordon off Cortina’s shopping square to allow local veterinarians to catch the animal, anesthetise it and then bring it back to the wild.

Cortina mayor Gianpaolo Ghedina told AP that “luckily, all ended well. Once the animal was sedated, it was brought back to the woods and then freed.”
