Nepal quake death toll rises to 3617

Nepali police say the death toll in the country has risen to at least 3617 people from the earthquake that hit on the weekend.

The police statement did not immediately give any other details.

So far 18 people have also been confirmed dead in an avalanche that swept through the Mount Everest base camp after the earthquake.

Another 61 people were killed in neighbouring India, and 20 in China’s Tibet region.
