Midweek Interview with Leon Pink

Midweek Interview with Leon Pink

We chat to Elements of Byron general manager about having vision, Amsterdam and his weak calf muscle.

The challenge for the industry is… Keeping ahead of repuation management.  This has never been so relevant as now in the ‘mocial’ media world.

The things I like about my job… Seeing my team embrace the resort’s vision and curating guest experiences that connect with that vision.

And the frustrations are … Trying to do yesterday what needs to be done tomorrow.

Favourite airline? Really enjoyed travelling with Fiji Airways .  Their sense of humour and warm smiles always made the difference.   Masterclass with kids!

My proudest moment was… Witnessing the first Indigenious trainees graduting our Ingidenious trainee program at Ayers Rock Resort.

The naughtiest thing I ever did was… Plenty of wayward moments opening Blakes in Amsterdam.  A stand out would be taking my previous GM to my favorite café and seeing her reaction to the interesting menu.

I try to relax by… Spending time with family, running and swimming.

The last time I feared for my life was… Hitting a roo 2 hours out of Alice Springs.

If I can, I always try to avoid… Magpies in the park behind my house and flying into Brisbane between 5-7pm (weekdays).

I really wish I had… My own 25 m swimming pool.

The best advice I’ve ever received was… Never get in your comfort zone in your workplace.

I don’t understand why people… Think that hospitality staff have control of the weather.

My greatest weakness is… My calf muscle.

And my greatest strength is… Creative people management.

If I won a $1 million lottery (aside from travelling), I would… Buy acerage!  Farm and family.

If I was prime minister I would… Get serious about tourism (alleluia we have Minister for Tourism).

If I could be someone else for one day I would be a… Missonary Pilot.

I’ve always wanted to travel to… To the Kimberleys , WA and drop a line.

My favourite holiday was… New York and Italy with my wife.  With precision planning ( shows,  resturant & bars , shopping ) – gold!
