Midweek Interview with AKARYN’s founder Anchalika Kijkanakorn

Midweek Interview with AKARYN’s founder Anchalika Kijkanakorn

It’s our fab Midweek Interview with Anchalika Kijkanakorn, the Founder and Managing Director of AKARYN Hotel Group.

The challenge for the industry is…

The evolving needs of travellers, their preferences and technologies.

The things I like about my job…

Meeting the changing needs of travellers, their preferences and technologies.

And the frustrations are …

The ever changing needs of travellers, their preferences and the speed of change in technologies.

If I didn’t work in travel I would be…

Travelling and exploring the world.

Favourite airline?

The one with the direct flight to where I’m going.

My proudest moment was…

When my sons’ teachers said they are both exemplary students and wish there wer more kids like mine in their respective classes.

The naughtiest thing I ever did was…

I told the reception at a very famous London restaurant that I was Lucy Liu and it would be very nice if I can get in without reservation yet incognito…this is years ago when Charlie’s Angels just came out.

We Asians look the same outside of ASEAN, and you can get away with silly things.

I try to relax by…

Max out my deadlifts at the gym.

The last time I feared for my life was…

I fell off my horse again earlier this year and have decided that I shouldn’t play polo anymore.

If I can, I always try to avoid…

Crowded places.

I really wish I had…

Unlimited time.

The best advice I’ve ever received was…

When things are tough, know that it will always get better in the end (and it always does).

I don’t understand why people…

Complain If something isn’t right, do something about it or get out of the way.

My greatest weakness is…

My spontaneity.

And my greatest strength is…

My spontaneity.

If I won a $1 million lottery (aside from travelling), I would…

Buy a small property, do it up, I love spotting possibilities, creating something, and seeing the end results.

If I was prime minister I would…

Expand Bangkok International airport, link the airport express, expand the subway and public transportation, invest in infrastructure, link north and south, promote technology and education.

If I could be someone else for one day I would be a…

I can’t think of one…I am happy being just me.

I’ve always wanted to travel to…

So many places I can’t list them all. It’s not the where, it’s with whom.

My favourite holiday was…

Traveling through Central Asia alone, backpacking 20 years ago.

    1. I stayed at Akyra Manor in Chiang Mai 2 years ago. The design of the room, the rooftop pool, the lobby and everything in the hotel are really cool, yet functional (unlike some modern designs which aren’t functional). What I loved most was the different Thai snacks the room service put in my room together with the short hand written note. The breakfast was also great, especially Massaman and Thai tea. The location is convenient, although a bit noisy on Friday night.
