Lufthansa turns Fanhansa for footy

Lufthansa is once again turning into Fanhansa for the UEFA European Championships in France, stirring up football fever among fans and customers.

Everyone’s Fanhansa is a new commercial to start the ball rolling. The commercial is about two football fan passengers and is an ironic treatment of typical clichés about Germans – it will be broadcast on German TV.

A new Lufthansa Regional Economy Class with green velvet decor, Alpenhorn music and a cuckoo clock is not going to happen any time soon. It only exists in the nightmare of an English football fan, the protagonist in the new TV spot.

The commercial shows two English football fans on their way to a match. When their actual flight is suddenly cancelled and they are rebooked on a Lufthansa jet, a nightmare begins for the Brits in more than just a hint of a German aircraft – it includes a cuckoo clock, sauerkraut and a German-English penalty shootout.

The spot taps into the longstanding rivalry between the two great football-playing nations in a humorous way to show that all the fans feel comfortable on board at Lufthansa.

“At the same time it deals ironically with the image of Germans to emphasize the premium aspects of Lufthansa once again in the concluding scenes,” says Benita Struve, Director of Marketing Communications.
