Largest ship to be christened on Thames

The largest ocean ship to be named at Greenwich has arrived in London.

Viking Sea, which can accommodate 930 passengers, sailed along the River Thames to reach the capital on Thursday morning.

It passed through the Thames Barrier before mooring in Greenwich before the evening ceremony which will feature a fireworks display.

The 47,800-tonne ship will be the largest christened on the Thames.

The vessel is believed to be the first to be named on the river since Twiggy christened the Seabourn Sojourn in 2006.

Viking Sea is the second ocean cruise ship launched by Viking Cruises. The firm has previously specialised in river cruises.
