Kenya growth proves popularity

Kenya growth proves popularity

Australian travellers are returning to the wild that is Kenya, with visitor numbers up 20 percent in 2016, according to the Kenya Tourist Board.

The popularity of an Africa escape was reinforced at the recent Virtuoso Travel Week Conference in Las Vegas, where it was reported that globally Kenya has the largest percentage of year-over-year bookings this year, a growth of 59 percent.

Bench Africa general manager, Martin Edwards commented that he wasn’t surprised to learn of these statistics.

“We too have observed an upturn in both Africa enquiries and bookings over the last 7 months, but our most dramatic spike in bookings has been for Kenya.”

Edwards added that Kenya has always been a premier destination for both beach and bush.

“The country offers rich culture, dramatic landscapes, incredible wildlife and welcoming, friendly people. It is fantastic to see travel confidence on the up! Kenya has always been the home of the authentic safari and we very much look forward to the country reaching its full potential.”

Bench Africa alone noted a 51 percent increase in Kenya bookings in 2016 so far, when compared to the same time period in 2015.

Kenya has been ranked the hottest luxury destination of 2016 by Virtuoso’s travel advisors passing out other African destinations including South Africa, and Tanzania.
