An Instagram-celebrity couple have defended their seemingly dangerous photo, after the shot was described as “moronic” and “dangerous”.

Kelly Catille and Kody Workman, curators of the Instagram account @positravelty, last week shared the snap taken in Ubud, Bali, to over 69 thousand followers.

The shot was taken at The Kayon Jungle Resort by Pramana and has since garnered more than 20 thousand likes at time of writing. However, the photo has also played host to a slew of negative criticism.

The travel couple was criticised for its “stupid, ridiculous” photo-op, which showed Workman holding his partner Catille over the lip of an infinity pool, seemingly dangling over what appeared to be a sheer edge, as they kiss.

Castille and Workman have since explained in a statement to Fox News that the couple were safe the whole time and that the shot was a “dramatisation” of the whole situation.

“As for safety, we are all responsible for ourselves at the end of the day,” Castille and Workman said. “The reality is that we felt safe, stable and confident for two reasons. First and foremost, there is another pool below that we cropped out of the shot for dramatisation. Secondly, we thought about this photo for days, considering the angles and potentials.”

“We are travellers, adventurers and above all, creatives. Life is about perspectives and it is important to review them all,” the pair continued. “As for the backlash… we know we were safe. A fall would have been nothing more than a nice splash and sprint up the stairs to try it again.”
