Hobart celebrates new Qantas flights

Qantas’ new business oriented flight schedule from Hobart to Sydney and Melbourne is welcoming news for business events in Tasmania.

An additional eleven weekly flights to and from Hobart have been added to Qantas’ flight schedule. Passengers on these new flights will travel on the airline’s two-class Boeing 717 jet aircraft.

Qantas Regional Manager for Tasmania Stephen Farquer said the new flights will connect more Tasmanians to interstate and international destinations and make it easier for international visitors to travel to the state.

“We have increased our flights from 35 to 46 return services per week and timed them to provide more flight options throughout the day for business customers and tourists alike,” Mr Farquer said.

“It will also provide better connection times for customers travelling to Qantas’ international destinations, including Shanghai, Los Angeles, Tokyo and Johannesburg,” he said.

The additional eleven return services per week add an extra 2,420 seats to-and-from Hobart on Qantas’ two-class Boeing 717 jet aircraft.

“This is very positive news for us” said Stuart Nettlefold, CEO at BusinessEvents Tasmania.

“The additional flights have been timed to benefit the business traveller and conference delegate.”

“This helps to increase Tasmania’s momentum to attract mid to large sized national and international conferences, up to 1100 delegates, to the state,” he said.

QantasLink operates flights into Devonport and Launceston, while Jetstar operates more than 70 return services per week from Hobart to Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, as well as 49 weekly return services from Launceston to Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.
