In a not-entirely-surprising study, research has shown that over half of Aussie travel searches happen during work hours. Because what’s better than wasting time in the office?

New research from travel search engine KAYAK.com.au has shown that 56 per cent of travel searches by Aussies occur in the office – and peak just after lunch.

During the work day, the peak hours for travel searches occur at 2pm – probably because we simply are not ready to return to work after lunch, and need to pass some time dreaming of our next holiday.

KAYAK’s data also reveals the top destinations nationwide Aussie travellers are browsing during work hours, with Bali, London and Sydney ranking as their top three fave choices for a trip away.

For Sydneysiders, London, Melbourne and Bali are the most popular destinations to browse, but Melburnians don’t return the same enthusiasm for Sydney, with Bali, London and Los Angeles making up the top most searched destinations in Melbourne.

And if your boss keeps looking over your shoulder? KAYAK have just the thing.

Desktop Escape is a desktop app to inspire Aussie nine-to-fivers and help them get through work. The free app provides stunning imagery from over 90 destinations across the world for users’ computer backgrounds – so your next holiday can always be right there in front of you.

Robin Chiang, Country Head of Australia and New Zealand at KAYAK, said that the app could push Aussies to make their dream trip a reality.

“Our data shows that Aussies are not shy about planning their travel from work, with more than half of people making bookings during working hours.

“With so many people in Australia daydreaming about their next holiday, KAYAK’s Desktop Escape is a great desktop application for providing travel inspiration, helping make a dream ‘escape’ into a reality”.
