Azamara Club Cruises’ second luxury ship has emerged like a butterfly from a cocoon after a multi-million dollar makeover, before making the long journey down to Melbourne tomorrow, February 22.

Azamara Journey is a 690-guest liner, and post-revamp boasts 345 suites and staterooms, new Spa Suites offering exclusive spa amenities and tubs overlooking the ocean.

As well as redesigned public spaces and staterooms, additional new features include The Patio, an al fresco poolside dining area; The Living Room, a casual bar, dining and entertainment room with A+ views; and new  Wi-Fi with faster speeds to accommodate streaming.

Azamara first made its Aussie debut back in 2015, with Azamara Quest bringing plenty of excitement down under on her inaugural Oz trip, which kicked off with its 10-night Great Barrier Reef sailing from Cairns.

Travel Weekly had the chance to board the glam cruise ship, and whittled down the things we love about it to just five things.

And now her sister is sailing in her tracks.

“We are very excited to be welcoming Azamara Journey to Australia for the first time. She is a completely new ship compared to her sister Azamara Quest who made her debut last summer, after a $25 million make over in April,” said Adam Armstrong, managing director, Azamara Club Cruises Australia & NZ.

“We worked with several of the world’s leading designers to ensure she not only looks and feels incredible, but also offer all the modern amenities our discerning travellers expect.”

And because it’s big on immersing passengers in destinations, Azamara Club Cruises recently announced the evolution of this position with Stay Longer, Experience More – giving guests access to connect with the destinations they visit.

Azamara Journey’s maiden Australian season will see more than half of all her port calls staying late into the evening or overnight, while her new Cruise Global, Connect Local land discoveries program will deliver personalised experiences, day and night.

The 690-guest Azamara Journey arrives in Melbourne at 8am as part of her 16-night New Zealand. She’ll stayed docked in the city until late in the evening so guests can go and explore the city.

She’ll depart at 9pm, with her maiden visit to Melbourne expected to inject almost $115,000 into the local economy while her Australian season will see more than $2.85 million injected into the national economy in passenger spend alone.
