Fantastic dance moves aside, Trafalgar is celebrating 100 years since the birth of one of the greatest African leaders by paying homage to him in their new Africa Collection!

72 years in the making, this program is a pivotal moment in Trafalgar’s brand history, with the Tollman family-owned and operated company with its roots firmly still in Africa.

“The timing of Trafalgar’s commitment to Africa has great significance as 2018 marks the centenary of the life of one of the great leaders and fathers of Africa, if not the world – Nelson Mandela,” CEO of Trafalgar Gavin Tollman said.

“Also known to South Africans by his clan name, Madiba, he was a proud son of rural Africa who grew to be one of our generation’s most remarkable expressions of courage, compassion, justice, and the journey of a life dedicated to service are concerned.

“Trafalgar coming home in 2018 is a small homage to the greatest fellow (South) African.”

The Tollmans open their hearts to share stories, secrets and hidden gems of their home, giving guests priceless travel opportunities with this program, which consists of smaller group trips of up to 15 guests.

Accomplished photographer and renowned African guide Mike Myers created all the beautiful photography in the brochure, sharing some stunning wildlife shots that guests will have the opportunity to witness first hand.

The collection gives travellers access to the people and places behind the stories – with Trafalgar creating exclusive experiences for guests so they can live the good life in every destination they visit. Trafalgar’s unique Stays With Stories offer exceptional, unrivalled African hospitality and unique accommodation opportunities for guests.

The stunning 5 star The Oyster Box has hosted royalty, from the likes of Monaco’s royal couple on their honeymoon to King Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu and now Trafalgar guests will stay there too on the Best of South Africa trip.

Trafalgar aims to make a difference in Africa in many ways as part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability with the various JoinTrafalgar initiatives along with The Travel Corporation’s TreadRight Foundation including wildlife initiatives, sustainable tourism practices and preserving and protecting all the communities that they visit.

South Africa needs vital support as a result of ongoing water issues in Cape Town and South Africa Tourism has a goal to have 5 million visitors by 2020, which Trafalgar aims to help them achieve as well as creating more employment opportunities.

“In the wonderfully inspirational words from the great Madiba: “What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others.” Nowhere is this exemplified more than in Africa,” Tollman said.

The program encompasses 9 countries, 10 handcrafted trips, three trip styles (Country Explorer, Regional Explorer, Mini Stay) with trips commencing December 2018 and January 2019.
