Flight delays and cancellations as Melbourne airport engulfed in fog

Passengers travelling to or from Melbourne airport were facing cancellations and delays of up to two hours after a heavy fog descended on the airport this morning.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Virgin and Jetstar have both had to cancel services, with Virgin cancelling one flight from Sydney to Melbourne this morning and Jetstar axing two return flights to the Gold Coast.

Virgin, Tiger, and Jetstar have all listed delays.

Qantas had to cancel eight flights in total, delaying passengers from Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne.

A spokesperson from Qantas told the Sydney Morning Herald the fog was expected to lift at about eight am but began to clear around seven-thirty am.

Airservices Australia said the congestion will continue until about midday and passengers should check with their airline for updates.
