Flight Centre not playing favourites

Flight Centre managing director Graham Turner has stressed the importance of cooperating with both Qantas and Virgin Australia, as he denied the agency group is easing ties with the Flying Kangaroo.

The Australian today reported that travel agency sources had identified Flight Centre’s deal with Virgin-owned Tigerair Australia, announced last week, as a defining moment.

However, Turner insisted good relations with both carriers makes good business sense, allowing FLT consultants to cater to the varying preferences of its customers.

“Obviously Qantas will be an important carrier for us. We have a good relationship with them but we also deal with Virgin,” he told The Australian. “Particularly in this neck of the woods we need to be supporting Qantas and Virgin and their network.

“The main thing we have to do is grow the overall market.”

The group currently does $1.8 billion of business with Qantas each year.
