Fiji Airways female pilots launch new uniform

Fiji Airways has shown off its new pilot uniforms, proudly putting its female pilots at the forefront to celebrate International Women’s Day.

The new pilot uniform combines the industry standardised style with distinctive Fiji Airways brand design elements such as the use of masi motifs on the brown tie.

These complement the Masi motifs which appear on the Fiji Airways Cabin Crew Uniforms.

The pants are now black instead of navy blue, and black shoulder epaulets with silver stripes compliment the white shirt.

Silver chinstraps with black braid design along with a Fiji wordmark adorns the pilot hat. The winged badge has been adapted to showcase the Fiji Airways Teteva. Each pilot uniform is decorated with insignia representing duties and rank.

Fiji Airways’ chief pilot and GM of flight operations, Captain Josua Cavalevu said the launch was well timed to recognise female pilots.

“The new uniform insignia has been customised with special features to reflect the Fiji Airways brand and what better day to have our female pilots headline the unveiling of it than International Women’s Day,” Cavalevu said.

“We’re using this launch to bring attention to the fact that we have some fantastic female pilots in our team. They are excellent aviators who do a great job day-in and day-out and are future Captains for our national carrier.

“We’re hoping more and more young women seriously consider flying as a career and ultimately join the pilot ranks at Fiji Airways.”

First Officer Seini Koroitamana, First Officer Selai Saumi and Second Officer Vanika Itautoka unveiled the new uniforms today. There are currently five female pilots at Fiji Airways – four Fijians and one on contract from Brazil.
