Female streaker causes airport closure

Modern airport departure check in gates closed with red X signs above and an aircraft on the runway.

A regional airport in the US has been forced to close due to a naked woman setting off on a run through its premises.

According to a statement by Florence Regional Airport executive director Connie Anderson, the airport’s Department of Public Safety received notification yesterday from Florence County Central Dispatch that a female was attempting to enter airport property at a secured access gate located east of the terminal.

Anderson said officers with the Florence Regional Airport Department of Public Safety responded and arrived at the gate at 11:24am (local time), and were informed by the witness/caller that and “unclothed” female had gained access to airport property and was last seen traveling south on Airport property within the fenced area.

“Officers with the Florence Regional Airport Department of Public Safety notified the FAA Tower and requested air traffic be suspended until the individual was located to ensure her safety, as well as those travelling on arriving air carriers,” she said.

“The Florence Regional Airport Department of Public Safety began a search for the suspect and requested the assistance of the Florence County Sheriff’s Office canine tracking team to locate the suspect.

“After a 30-minute search, Florence County Sheriff s Office canines led officers to a drainage culvert, where the suspect was located north of Runway 27.”

Anderson said the suspect was removed from the culvert without injury, charged with trespassing and transported to a local hospital to undergo a possible mental evaluation.

“Upon investigation, it was determined that the suspect had not made entry to any active runway or taxiway while on airport property and the airport resumed normal operations,” she said.

“Within this time, American Airlines flight #4961 was scheduled to land at FLO but was diverted by the FAA tower back to CLT.”

It is understood that the South Carolina airport was closed for approximately two hours due to the incident, and according to the below social media post, a party bus was brought in to lend a hand in transporting some affected customers.
