Destination Delayed reveals budget carriers dependable

Domestic air passengers can rely on budget airlines for a punctual departure, just as much (if not more so) than our higher profile commercial airlines.

Tigerair has demonstrated a marked improvement in service reliability, with the airline experiencing just 13.87 percent flight delays in 2015, compared with 22.32 percent in 2014, according to data from the Budget Direct Destination Delayed.

When the Australian commercial aviation market opened up to competition some years ago, various ‘budget airlines’ entered our airspace, offering attractive prices for a simple flight service, minus the trimmings.

However, these companies quickly acquired a bad reputation for delayed and cancelled flights, and some were even forced out of the market, such as Air Australia in 2012.

Relatively new to the Australian air-travel market, despite existing successfully for a great many decades in Europe, budget airlines should no longer be assumed unreliable.

Indeed, many domestic air passengers are more concerned about accessing air travel at an affordable price, as long as a punctual departure could be relied upon.

New reliable data and statistics collated by national insurance company Budget Direct demonstrates that budget airlines can certainly be relied upon for punctual arrivals; no more or less so than their higher profile competitors.

The Destination Delayed online tool collects recently released 2015 flight data from the Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics (BITRE), comparing reliability of Australian airlines to national airports every year from 2004.
