Celebrating Australia’s best rocks on National Rocky Road Day

Celebrating Australia’s best rocks on National Rocky Road Day

Tomorrow 2 June is National Rocky Road day and to celebrate, we’ve put together five of the best ‘rocky’ road adventures you can have in Australia.

There’s nothing more beautiful than our own backyard, and these are some of the best ways to explore it.

And plus, it’s a Friday, so TW gives you permission to spend the day browsing through photos of beautiful bucket list locations.

The Kimberley

Ever wondered what really goes on in the outback? Head off on AAT Kings’ Wonders of the Kimberley and you’ll be wowed by the spectacular landscapes and the insight into life up North.

Two-time Australian Country Music Golden Guitar winner and horseman extraordinaire, Tom Curtain, shows the inner workings of an outback Australian cattle station with real horse-starting and working dog demonstrations with a side of tales from the bush.

After experiencing the more traditional side of the outback it’s time to slow things down with a scenic boat ride along the Ord River where the landscape must be seen to be believed.

Kakadu

Everyone should experience Kakudu at least once in their life.

If you’re looking for the ultimate breath-taking view over the National Park climb Nourlangie and marvel in the beautiful Aussie landscape expanse below.

Head off with local rangers on Inspiring Journey’s Kakadu’s Ancient Secrets and soak up the traditional Aboriginal art and culture.

There’s no need for a cross-country hike through the park thanks to the incredibly luxe 4WD coaches, which save a ton of adventure time thanks to their off-road ability.

You can relax with refreshments and all your creature comforts before arriving at the magnificent Gunlom Falls.

Sitting at the top of the Kakadu National Park, this serene pool will make you feel a million miles away as you take a dip in the crystal-clear waters.

Darwin

Darwin is filled with adventures packed with natural beauty to explore. If you like things a little more out of this world, visit the self-proclaimed “UFO capital of Australia” at Wycliffe Well and according to locals, UFO sightings are very common.

Contiki’s Outback Adventure will make sure you hit all the photogenic spots to see like the ‘Garden of Eden’ waterhole and the ‘Lost City’ at Kings Kaynon.

Get a sweat up hiking within Kakadu National Park and explore the Aboriginal Rock art that’s existed for centuries before relaxing at Mataranka thermal pools. Looking for more adventure?

Why not take a scenic flight over world heritage listed areas or go hot air ballooning over the MacDonnell Ranges. Adrenaline spiking more your speed? Head off quad biking!

Uluru

There’s nothing more spectacular than soaking up the magic of Uluru, unless of course you take a trip with Inspiring Journey’s and experience The Ultimate Territory Adventure in Style.

Experiencing a Red Centre sunrise is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Our tip? Take a photo every minute as you watch the sun come up.

Although you may not have noticed the subtle yet spectacular changes in the light, you’ll be left with some incredible shots.

Another bucket list item? The Field of Light art installation by Bruce Munro. Explore this magical installation before sunrise for something truly incredible!
