Rail Europe Announces 2017 Product Changes Across Distribution Network
Agents are advised that a series of change will come into effect from January 2017, which will improve the way their clients travel around Europe.
From 1 January 2017, new Eurail Italy-Switzerland and Eurail France Passes will be rolled out, while the France Rail Pass will be discontinued. The Italy-Switzerland Pass will provide options for 4, 5, 6, 8 and 10 days of travel within two months; and the Eurail France Pass will have options of 3, 4, 5 and 8 days of travel within one month. Meanwhile, the age limit for all Eurail and German Rail youth passes will be extended to 12-27 years inclusive (previously 12-25 years).
Agents can also advise their clients that from 2017, Eurail pass-holders will be granted special fares on Eurostar’s main routes of London / Ashford / Ebbsfleet to Paris / Brussels / Lille / Calais and Disneyland Paris. Fares of 30€ for Standard and 38€ for Standard Premier apply (subject to change). Agents must note, however, that these fares will require the use of a day on the rail pass and check-in time for these journeys will be 45 mins instead of 30 mins.
Finally, the new year will also see the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn / Glacier Express in Switzerland be included with Eurail Passes covering the country, allowing travellers to embark on the iconic 7.30hr scenic journey without additional private line supplement costs.
Meanwhile, effective 11 December, all CityNightLine services will seize to operate with OBB taking over the Munich – Rome, Munich – Venice and Zurich – Hamburg routes.

World Expeditions acquires Sherpa Van – taking your baggage out of walking holidays
World Expeditions Travel Group, has acquired UK-based baggage transfer service, Sherpa Van, who specialise in services for walkers on some of Britain’s best walking trails, including the popular Coast to Coast Trek.
Sherpa Van collects walker’s baggage each morning and delivers them to their next accommodation, freeing them up to participate in longer linear walks with just a day pack, and with the comfort of their luggage on arrival.
The baggage transfer service has become a popular option for the growing number of travellers participating in walking holidays through Britain’s countryside, eliminating the need for walkers to carry a heavy back.
World Expeditions CEO, Sue Badyari, says she’s excited about the new offering which will complement the company’s extensive offering of a range of fully serviced walking holidays in Britain.
“So many people are seeking the enjoyment of participating in longer walks like the classic Coast to Coast Walk which travels 300 kilometres across Britain, through rolling hills bordered by dry stone walls and charming little villages,” she said.
“But for many, carrying your entire week’s luggage from place to place each day can mean the difference between being able to do the trek or not, so this transfer service is key to making the treks accessible for all levels of trekkers who’ll carry just a day pack.
“Sherpa Van gives travellers peace of mind that their baggage is competently transported by professional drivers, allowing them to simply enjoy the joy of walking and the beauty of the British countryside.”
