Carnival Cruise Line’s Wiggle for Westmead dance party

Carnival Cruise Line’s guests have taken to the cruise line’s new charity partnership with The Children’s Hospital at Westmead with gusto – wiggling, wobbling and nutbushing their way through its inaugural Wiggle for Westmead dance parties.

The first ever Wiggle for Westmead event saw 120 Carnival Spirit guests put their dancing shoes on to raise more than $2200 for the children’s hospital, a feat quickly topped last week by guests during the second party, which raised an impressive $3100.

The Wiggle for Westmead dance events are held on the last sea day of each cruise, with guests able to join the party by purchasing a special pack featuring a “Wiggle for Westmead” t-shirt and wrist band.  Created by Carnival, the packs cost $15, with 100 per cent of the purchase price donated to the hospital.

P&O Cruises inaugural Dark Mofo cruise

P&O President Sture Myrmell and Dark Mofo Creative Director Leigh Carmichael

P&O Cruises President Sture Myrmell travelled to Tasmania to join Dark Mofo Creative Director Leigh Carmichael in officially launching the first Dark Mofo cruise.

The inaugural Dark Mofo cruise will depart Sydney on June 13, 2017, on Pacific Jewel and will feature an unprecedented three-day stay in Hobart to allow guests to enjoy the art, food, music, light, film and oddities featured in Tasmania’s annual celebration of the dark.

The six-night cruise is priced from $599 per person quad share and includes entry to Tasmania’s iconic Museum of Old and New Art (Mona) as well as the return ferry trip and a priority pass to the event’s spectacular City of Hobart Dark Mofo Winter Feast.

Speaking from Hobart, Mr Myrmell said the Dark Mofo cruise was the cruise line’s first art-themed “main event” itinerary.

“While we already take our guests to iconic Australian events like the Melbourne Cup and Australian Open, this is the first arts event we have added to our schedule. It’s going to be something different and we can’t wait to get onboard with Dark Mofo to offer our guests the opportunity to cruise to one of Australia’s most talked about events,” Mr Myrmell said.

Mr Carmichael said cruising offered avenues for expansion with ships able to carry thousands more people to the event.

Cunard’s flagship liner Queen Mary 2 sets sail

Cunard’s flagship liner Queen Mary 2 will set sail this month on her first voyage following an investment of around £90 million (approx AU$177 million) – one of the most significant refurbishments undertaken by the world’s most famous passenger shipping line.

The remastered liner will sail into Southampton today (local time) flanked by fleet royalty Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria, to be greeted by a host of high-profile guests. The vessel will then set sail for New York, continuing her schedule of iconic Transatlantic crossings.

The luxury liner has been lovingly remastered with new contemporary interior designs and guest experiences, many of which take inspiration from the original Queen Mary which launched at the height of the art-deco movement in the 1930s. Cunard’s investment, marking 80 years since the original liner launched, has ensured every detail from the carpets to the curtains recalls that iconic vessel which became a symbol of British elegance.

Australians will be able to see the newly remastered ship in local waters when she visits next February during her 2017 world voyage. Queen Mary 2’s time in Australia will include a memorable Royal Rendezvous with Queen Elizabeth in Sydney on February 25 as well as maiden visits to Tasmania and South Australia’s Kangaroo Island.
