Australian company, Active Travel, is waiving solo supplements for single travellers keen to join a women’s only cultural tour of northern India this November.

The 16-day small group tour for Australian women will immerse them daily in the authentic and colourful culture of Rajasthan and surrounding areas, with guests learning how to dance, cook, weave, tie saris and apply traditional henna dye for temporary tattoos. The tour also includes a visit to the iconic Taj Mahal.

The guided, round-trip itinerary begins in Delhi on November 17, 2017, with visits to a jewellery studio and bangle market and encounters with local puppeteers, wood carvers, musicians and street performers. In special workshops, guests will learn how to dance Indian style and apply traditional henna dyed tattoos.

The tour then moves to the sacred Ganges city of Varanasi where the women will learn about Hinduism and local music and enjoy sunset and sunrise cruises on the Ganges to see pilgrims perform time-honoured Hindu rituals by ‘Mother Ganga’. Weaving villages and several temples and palaces are visited and a safari through Panna National Park is included to spot leopard, tiger, deer and sloth bears.

A train trip aboard the Kerala Express will take the group from Jhansi to Agra to see the majestic Taj Mahal at sunset. The grand forts and palaces of Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur in Rajasthan are then featured along with folk performances, textile villages, produce markets, a crystal gallery, a sunset cruise on Lake Pichola and a traditional meal in a private home.

The 16-day women’s only guided tour includes accommodation, 31 meals, domestic flights and extensive sightseeing and is available from $6493 per person, twin-share. The waiving of the solo supplement means single travellers pay the same rate, saving $1470. Flights from Australia are extra but can also be booked through Active Travel.

Major events “Come to Life” on the Sunshine Coast with launch of new marketing campaign

Mooloolaba Triathlon Festival 2011 Ocean Swim

Mooloolaba Triathlon Festival 2011 Ocean Swim

Sunshine Coast Council and Visit Sunshine Coast, today (May 31) launched a new marketing campaign promoting the diverse range of major events hosted on the Sunshine Coast.

The campaign, Major Events ‘Come to Life’ on the Sunshine Coast, features television and radio ads, a 54 page major events guide with My Weekly Preview, digital and social media activation.

The joint campaign will be activated in the Sunshine Coast region, by Sunshine Coast Council and in key drive markets by Visit Sunshine Coast.

Visit Sunshine Coast CEO Simon Latchford said the new events promotion completed the final theme of the ‘Come to Life’ national campaign launched by the regional tourism organisation earlier this year.

“Visit Sunshine Coast launched a new destination marketing campaign called ‘Come to Life’ building on the region’s ‘naturally refreshing’ branding, earlier in the year. The campaign reflects the key brand pillars of contemporary beach culture; wonders of nature; innovative food and produce; immersive encounters, and now the final piece – exhilarating events.

“We know that events provide the perfect opportunity to not only showcase our region as a tourism destination but also position the Sunshine Coast as the regional events capital of Australia.

“Research indicates three-quarters of event attendees would not have gone to a destination, if not for an event. Also, for 57% of first-time visitors to the region, the event is the main reason for visiting and likewise for 69% of repeat visitors.

“We are pleased to again partner with Sunshine Coast Council to market the impressive events on offer throughout 2017, in order to drive interest and visitation from outside the region.”

Titlis-Engelberg debut at Snow Travel Expo 2017

Participating at the Snow Travel Expo for the very first time this year, Titlis-Engelberg representative, Peter Niederberger, was pleased to report that the region received much interest from attendees over the two weekends in Sydney and Melbourne. Compared to many other parts of Switzerland, Titlis-Engelberg hadn’t been the traditional go-to destination for Aussie skiers; and as a relatively small village, the interest pouring in was encouraging.

Highlights of the region include the facts that Titlis-Engelberg is not only home to the largest freeride area in the country, but also Europe’s highest suspension bridge and the world’s first revolving gondola. Its longest ski run stretches 12 km, the glacier stands at a towering 3000m above sea level and its steepest vertical drop is 2000m. The village of Engelberg sits at 1,050m and is only a 45 min train ride away from the historical city of Lucerne. A monastery, cheesemaker and a host of accommodation options are also very much part of the attraction.

Snow enthusiasts also learnt about value-add, such as ski passes that automatically included as part of their winter stays and the series of discounted winter packages offered for visits between October and May.

Hola from Excite Holidays and Los Cabos!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Excite Holidays recently treated its Brisbane-based agents to a Mexican themed breakfast at Watt Riverside Restaurant and Bar.

In collaboration with Los Cabos Tourism, the event was designed to showcase and educate agents on all that this Mexican hotspot has to offer. Agents were also given the chance to win some fantastic prizes!

Filled with an abundance of good food, great company, stunning views and plenty of colour, the agents started their morning off the right way. Upon arrival, they were met with a fancy cocktail, mexican hot chocolate and a delectable spread that  included baked goods such as muffins and danishes, before sitting down to indulge in a Pico de Gallo Burrito, a traditional Mexican breakfast.

The agents were even lucky enough to meet with the Managing Director of Los Cabos Tourism, Rodrigo Esponda, who came straight off the plane from Mexico to offer his expertise and passion for this incredible destination. The agents also heard from Lisa Hollenberg, from Thompson Hotels and Rebecca Maitland from One&Only, who both took the agents through their incredible properties.

Sno’n’Ski celebrates ski season

IMG_0937

Last Friday 26th of May Sno’n’Ski hosted 24 Ski Resorts from around the world for a training session and after party at the new Flight Centre Headquarters in Southbank. FCTG staff had the opportunity to personally meet representatives from many of the major resorts, who provided small group training sessions on each ski resort.

The ‘Apres Party’ themed event saw Sno’n’Ski staff dress up in flashy 80’s style ski clothing, while FCTG staff used a ski pass, which when completed gained entry into the draw for 1 of 2 major prizes;  a ski trip for 2 to Vail and Beaver Creek thanks to major sponsors Vail Resorts and Virgin Australia.

The second major prize was a seat on the Sno’n’Ski Canada Mega Famil, which was announced to be going ahead in March 2018 after the huge success of the first Sno’n’Ski Mega Famil in 2017.

After the training sessions came the much anticipated ‘Apres Party’! After taking in the fantastic view of the Brisbane skyline that makes the backdrop of the Flight Centre Headquarters top floor, it was hard to miss the 1.5m lighted letters that spelled out Sno’n’Ski. These two features added to the setting for the snow themed gif photo booth, complete with crepe paper snow.

The gif stop was themed with props and ski gear thanks to major sponsor, Aspen Snowmass. A magnum Mumm Champagne will be awarded to the best gif posted on Instagram with #snonskiapres this coming Friday.

FCTG agents, representatives from the 24 Ski Resorts and the Sno’n’Ski team celebrated the evening with a ski themed menu and beverages. It was hard to go past the s’mores station, that was conveniently located in the line for the gif stop, only to be greeted by the do-it yourself ice-cream station.

No worries if you didn’t have a sweet tooth because there was a delicious build your own poutine station, mini burgers, corn dogs and gyoza, which were washed down with Caesars and Asahi.

Sno’n’Ski offers a huge thank you to the visiting ski resorts for supporting this exciting and unique event.  Very special thanks to major sponsors Vail Resorts and Aspen Snowmass, who without their support and prizes the evening would not have been possible. Also a special thanks to Virgin Australia who supplied the flights for the major prize.
