Kiwis living in Australia need a visa to visit South Africa
South African Airways has issued a warning about the need for New Zealand passport holders living in Australia to obtain a visa before visiting South Africa.
According to Tim Clyde-Smith, SAA’s Country Manager for Australasia, the new visa rules came into force on January 16 this year, but many New Zealand passport holders are still unaware of the requirements.
Further information on visa requirements for New Zealand passport holders and required documentation for any persons under the age of 18 years travelling to South Africa can be found at www.dha.gov.za to find out about supporting documents. World Expeditions Marks the Nepal earthquake anniversary with a new school rebuild project
World Expeditions has launched a new school rebuild project in Nepal’s remote region of Gorkha, its fourth since the earthquake devastated the country on 25 April, 2015.
Administered by the company’s not-for-profit arm, the World Expeditions Foundation, the 18 day trip combines sightseeing in Kathmandu, an 8 day trek and 4 days working alongside local people to assist rebuild three new classrooms at the Shree Manjushree School in the remote village of Kashi Goan.
The school, which was established in 1962 and has 365 students attending, was severely damaged during the earthquakes. To date, the World Expeditions Foundation, via the company’s Earthquake Appeal, has funded several teams of volunteer trekkers in the building of classrooms at three schools across Nepal.

New Zealand Ski Areas Announce What’s New for 2017 season
THE REMARKABLES, QUEENSTOWN
Double Conveyor Life on Learner Slopes
The Remarkables ski field in Queenstown will enclose its existing double conveyor lift on the learner’s slope with a Slinky-style transparent tube enhancing the learner experience over the magic carpet area. Guests that are travelling up to the top of slope will be sheltered from the weather without missing out on watching some of the fun of learners sliding down the slope outside. As a first of its kind in New Zealand, the cover will be assembled and ready to go by the planned opening date for The Remarkables of June 10.
Expanded Skiable Terrain
With return transport provided for Outward Bound skiers/riders, and the base building removed, The Remarkables accessible terrain has gone up from 265.5 to 385 hectares.
More Snowmaking
Additional snowmaking guns have been installed at The Remarkables’ Curvey Basin Trail, covering extensive runs accessed by the new chairlift installed last season.
CORONET PEAK, QUEENSTOWN
Introduction of mid week night skiing in July
During the month of July, Coronet Peak is adding an extra night of the week to its ever popular Friday and Saturday night skiing experience with the addition of a midweek inclusion on Wednesday evenings.
Night skiers will also be able to enjoy two new additions to the floodlit trails. Running off the side of the M1 trail Duncan’s Dance, a rolling terraced run, and the Pro Am run alongside the lower Coronet Express will be lit up for 2017 night skiing adding to the many runs on offer.
More snowmaking
Coronet Peak has added to its snowmaking capacity near the base of the mountain. Two guns – a mobile and boom fan gun – will improve snow cover at lift access.
Ice Bar relocation
The ever-popular on mountain Ice Bar is moving from the Greengates trail to beside the pump house steeps on the M1, making it more accessible for all levels of skiers and giving guests awesome photo opportunities of their Queenstown ski experience.
Extensive trail remodeling and new features
New terrain near The Meadows Express Chair will be a kids’ delight, as a kids fun zone complete with tunnel and bank turns is being created.
Extensive grooming and remodeling under the Coronet Express lift includes the afore-mentioned Duncan’s Dance, the widening of the steepest part of the M1, making it more intermediate-friendly. Duncan’s will now also have a short terrain park with intermediate hard features. Further down, the Pro Am run is being groomed into a more enjoyable intermediate run that holds snow coverage better. Both Duncan’s and Pro Am will be lit at night.
MT. HUTT
Expanded Skiable Terrain
An additional 21 new ha of skiable terrain has opened up at Mt Hutt as the boundary at the South West face has been extended.
More snowmaking
Mt. Hutt has purchased and installed new automated guns at the upper mountain and modified the terrain to improve snow coverage on higher runs. The addition of a pisten bully winch groomer will help maintain snow across the mountain.
World Ski Awards
Mt. Hutt has won New Zealand’s Best Ski Resort for a consecutive year at the 5th annual World Ski Awards held in Austria. This global initiative recognises, rewards and celebrates excellence in ski tourism.

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Stalingrad.
Mat McLachlan Battlefield Tours is offering a unique and fascinating tour of the Battle of Stalingrad, which took place from July 17, 1942 – Feb 2, 1943, a major battle in which Nazi Germany fought the Soviet Union for control of the city of Stalingrad (now known as Volgograd), the Soviets were victorious and the defeat of Nazi Germany marked the turning of the tide of the war in favour of the Allies.

Travellers Choice agents explore Tanzania in style
As guests of The Africa Safari Co. and South African Airlines, eight agents explored some of Tanzania’s world famous game reserves and luxury safari lodges, including the recently-opened Asilia The Highlands, which sits on the edge of mountain forest north of Ngorongoro Crater and near a Maasai village.
Tullie Seneca from Travel and Cruise Ceduna says it was here that the group were given the opportunity to visit the settlement, and speak to Maasai women and children still unaccustomed to meeting international guests.

The group visited Diamond Peak, Heavenly Ski Resort and Mt. Rose. Some key highlights were snowmobile rides, sleigh rides, and plenty of apres ski!
The second group of Anthea Huxley (Travelplan Ski), Tammy Bakker (Dive Fish Snow Holidays), Emily Macleod (Andrew Jones Travel), Sean Appleby (Flight Centre), Andrew Bridgewood (Sno ‘n’ Ski) and Deidre Parkes-Finch (United Airlines) flew into Salt Lake City via San Francisco and visited Park City, Deer Valley, The Canyons, Brighton, Solitude, Alta and Snowbird Resorts. The group also visited Salt Lake City spending time at the Natural History Museum, Temple Square and This is the Place Heritage Park.

New Caledonia Tourism invites wholesalers to #TasteNewCaledonia at its annual Rendezvous Workshop
This week, New Caledonia Tourism held its annual Rendezvous Workshop aimed at educating Australian wholesaler about the destination’s diverse landscape and gastronomic offerings.
On 27 March, 36 tour operators attending the workshop on Amedee island. Divided into three smaller groups, the participants embarked on three pre-workshop famil itineraries which showcased the diverse and unique landscapes found in New Caledonia.
One group travelled to the North for an adventure-filled intinerary which included flying over the famous mangroive formation – the Heart of Voh, scuba diving and kayaking across the clear blue waters of the Pacific Ocean. Another group explored the authentic cowboy country of beautiful Bourail on horsebacjk, while the third group headed out to panoramic Ouvéa uncover underwater treasures in New Caledonia’s vast lagoon.

MTA rolls out “productivity game changing” facility
