APT launches new journey’s to the Western Front

Diamond travel industry partners and crew of APT were up on the sundeck of the AmaVenita for the Anzac Dawn Service.

The iced cold air made for a humbling setting for the service and one that would make it a most memorable experience. With so many wanting to pay their respects at Battlefields of the Western Front, APT has created two new itineraries.

APT’s 20-Day Western Front ANZAC Dawn Service is designed to commemorate the centenary of Western Front battles in WW1; guests will visit some of the most significant WW1 Battlefields including Vimy Ridge and Fromelles.

The journey combines a seven night Rhône river cruise with a seven night Seine river cruise, as well as a five night land journey through France and Belgium. Guests also participate in the ANZAC Day Dawn Service at Villiers-Bretonneux, marking the 99th anniversary of the Second Battle at the site.

The journey also explores the culture and cuisine of the region, with highlights including a cocktail reception at Grignan Castle, a gourmet dinner at L’Abbaye de Collonges, the chance to explore Claude Monet’s house in Giverny and a night out and dinner at the famous Parisian cabaret, Moulin Rouge.

This all inclusive tour is priced from $12,445 per person twin share and departs 13 April 2017.

The second itinerary launched is APT’s 22-Day Battlefields of France tour guests enjoy an in-depth six night land journey through Northern France, a night in Belgium and a 14 night luxury Magnificent Europe river cruise.

The tour commences in Paris, travelling to Bayeux to visit the largest WW1 cemetery of Commonwealth soldiers in France. It also explores the coastal town of Arromanches to see the remains of Mulberry Harbour and visits Omaha Beach as well as the poignant Normandy American Cemetery – there is also Amiens, Villers-Bretonneaux and Ypres to enjoy. Touring some of the most significant battlefields of WW1, guests pay their respects at Vimy Ridge and then Fromelles – the site of the failed ‘sideshow’ resulting in more than 5,000 Australian casualties in a single night.

Additional highlights include APT’s three exclusive Royal Invitations: a private cocktail reception and musical soiree at Vienna’s City Palace; a journey aboard the Majestic Imperator train; and the chance to explore Namedy Castle where Travel Weekly attended earlier this week.

Priced from $12,590 per person, twin share there are four departures of this tour in 2017.

APT Executive General Manager Debra Fox said, “These tours are poignant and offer our guests the opportunity to see for themselves the place where our ANZAC soldiers fought so valiantly. As well as being of historical interest, we’ve created journeys that also celebrate the regional highlights of culture, food, fine wine and stunning architecture.”
