An Otterly cute surprise at Singapore Airport

An otter is looking straight up at the camera from the water

A family of otters were found running amuck on the tarmac at a Singapore airport.

Quite possibly a case of wanderlust, a family of otters was spotted via surveillance cameras having a heck of a time running around on the tarmac at Singapore Changi airport earlier this week.

Unfortunately, they won’t be jet-setting on holiday anytime soon as airport officials guided them safely off the runway.

Not quite a trip to a beach in the Bahamas, the otter family were given the alternative of a private escort to the nearby Changi Beach.

Luckily no flights were delayed as a result to the cheeky intruders.

“Besides regular wildlife patrols, a surveillance system is in place to prevent and detect foreign object debris, including wildlife,” a Changi Airport spokesperson said in a statement.

“Safety is a top priority at Changi Airport – should any wildlife be detected on the runway, flight operations will be halted temporarily so that the safety team can attend to the situation immediately.”

A senior lecturer at the National University of Singapore, N Sivasothi told Travel Pulse, that otter sightings at the airport were unheard of.

It’s likely the family were looking for a place to “to hunt for food, rest, sleep and breed, ” he said.

If you’re now feeling all fuzzy over the thought of cuddly otters, and want to see something more to blubber about, have a peek at this sun baking seal
