All change over at Star Alliance

South African Airways’ country manager Australasia Tim Clyde-Smith has been confirmed as the new chair of Star Alliance’s Country Steering Committee.

He will now lead Star Alliance’s activities in Australia, oversee its corporate social responsibility initiatives and drive its efforts to enhance its benefits for Australian travellers at a time of expansion.

“The number and frequency of services our member carriers offer, along with the airports they serve, will once again expand in 2016, providing even more ways for Australian travellers to connect with Star Alliance’s global network of more than 1,300 destinations in 192 countries,” Clyde-Smith said.

“Star Alliance is also optimising our customers’ travel experience by consistently developing innovative products and services, with recent examples including the world’s only Premium Economy Round the World airfare and Gold Track priority lanes at airport security checkpoints.”

There are currently a total of 23 Star Alliance members active in the Australian market and, of these, 11 operate scheduled flights from nine key ports around the country.

Clyde-Smith brings to his new role more than 25 years’ travel and tourism experience, including senior positions with some of the world’s most respected international airlines. He joined South African Airways in 2012 from Emirates.

Jum Mu, Air China’s regional sales manager Australia, takes up the role of vice chair.
