Airbus is making the seat middle even worse

Airbus has unveiled a new design for its economy cabins as it attempts to squeeze even more seats onto its A380, and would-be passengers’ reactions are not good.

The plane maker is providing a new-option for airlines to create an 11-abreast row in economy, thereby adding an extra seat to each row – or five ‘middle seats’ per aisle, NBC news reports.

Per reports, Airbus named the new offering “Choice” and it includes Budget Economy, Comfort Economy, Premium Economy and Business Class.

The new designs, unveiled at the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg, will be offered for airlines to lower costs on operating A380 jets and can be fitted as soon as 2017.

As per the report, consumer advocacy groups are not thrilled with the move, which they say could potentially affect passenger safety as some could find it difficult to move across the tight configuration of seats.

Aircraft are currently tested to ensure all passengers are able to exit within 90 seconds.
