Tiger Australia will launch its first intrastate route with the start of a Sydney to Coffs Harbour service from February.

The four times weekly flights will provide more than 1400 weekly seats through the two airports, with a fifth service to be added from late March.

State minister for tourism George Souris said the addition of Coffs to the Tiger network, for the first time in the low cost carrier’s five year history, is “excellent news” for regional tourism.

“This significant increase in air services to regional NSW is a great opportunity for tourism and local businesses and will grow the visitor economy in our state,” he said.

Meanwhile, Tiger commercial director Carly Brear predicted that the airline’s position as the only low cost operator on the route would see the services succeed.

“We’re confident our services will prove popular, stimulating demand and economic benefits to both markets,” she said.

The new addition to the network represents the fifth new destination announced by Tiger this year, following its return to Cairns, Hobart, Adelaide and Mackay earlier this year.
