Qantas voted top of Aussie airlines: TripAdvisor
By admin

Despite its recent woes Qantas has been voted the best airline in Australia in TripAdvisor's 2014 Travellers' Choice Awards for Travel Favourites.

Qantas Domestic CEO Lyell Strambi says it's an honour for Qantas to be the first recipient of the award.

"Awards like this are important because they are voted on by customers – customers that have experienced first-hand our industry leading on-time performance, world-class check-in services and quality service on the ground and in the air," Strambi said in a statement on Tuesday.

It comes after Qantas earlier this year announced record financial losses and plans to axe thousands of jobs.

The awards also saw Lonely Planet named favourite guidebook and travel magazine, Samsonite favourite carry-on luggage, Budget the best car rental company, and Kathmandu the preferred backpack brand.

The worldwide awards cover 38 categories, with TripAdvisor travellers voting on everything from coffee, toothpaste and eye drops to tablet computers, cameras and sunscreen. This is the first year the awards have included airlines.
