Magellan CEO: 2015 looking ‘solid’

Magellan Travel Group has reported record growth and profit at its largest annual conference in Canberra, with 2015 looking to be another ‘solid’ year according to chief executive office, Andrew Macfarlane

Benefitting from the upheaval caused as a result of Helloworld’s rebranding, membership to the group in FY13/14 grew by 40 agents to 120 agents, with net profit increasing 43% to $6 million – breaking all records since its inception in 2008.

“We have 120 of the best travel agents in Australia with the group now commanding some $800 million of aggregated buying power so we are a group of choice for the best agents and the best suppliers and we will keep growing,” Macfarlane said.

“We truly believe we broke the mould of groups profiting from, rather than profiting for, their member agents.”

Macfarlane told Travel Today the “dust has settled on Helloworld’s transition,” and is aiming for a target of just 10 new members in 2014/15 – particularly to balance its corporate sector.

“Our plan for 2015 is to complete the journey we set out on some two years ago, to grow to a $1 billion group with the best corporate and high-end leisure agents in the land and we are well on track,” Macfarlane said.

Melbourne was announced as the host city for next year’s conference.
