Helloworld vows to continue GST fight

Helloworld is to continue its fight against a Federal Court ruling that found in favour of the tax office and cost the company around $2 million in GST.

The matter relates to a GST claim regarding the operations of its former inbound business, ATS Pacific, which was sold to AOT Group last September.

The Federal Court found in favour of the Commissioner of Taxation at a hearing in April 2013, with the decision upheld in March this year after Helloworld appealed.

Helloworld has now confirmed it will fight on.

“Helloworld advises that it will be lodging an application for special leave to appeal to the High Court of Australia regarding the decision of the Full Federal Court handed down on 27 March, 2014,” the company said in a statement to the Australian Securities Exchange late last Thursday.

Helloworld said after the ruling in March that it is likely to result in a non-recurring expense, net of income tax, of between $1.7m and $2m, exclusive of interest, costs or penalties.

In addition, Helloworld will be required to remit GST that has been withheld during the process of the claim.
