This afternoon, Fiji Airways will launch its inaugural direct service from Sydney to Suva.

Fiji Airways will now offer twice-weekly direct flights between Sydney and Suva, operated by its B737-700 aircraft.

The direct services will operate on Mondays and Fridays, with a morning departure from Suva (10.15am FJT) and an afternoon departure from Sydney (2.20pm AEST).

In honour of this exciting new launch, we've compiled a list of fun things to do once you get yourself to Suva. So jump on one of the twice-weekly flights, and check out these top travel attractions.

1. If you can hold off a few months, the South Indian fire-walking festival is held at the Mariamma Temple during July or August. Watch men traverse a pit of blazing embers and enjoy the festive preparations that make the lead-up just as exciting as the event itself.

2. The Colo-i-Suva Forest Park is a luscious 2.5 square metre rainforest, brimming with tropical plants and melodic bird life. A variety of trails that stop off at swimming points and waterfalls make up a 1.5 hour loop that's well worth the trek.

3. Suva Municipal Markets are a definite draw of the region, with delicious local produce in abundance.

4. Book a full day sightseeing tour of Suva through Nadi Hotels, and you'll see the President's residence, botanical gardens, colonial architecture and shopping hotspots.

5. Take a cruise with the Royal Suva Yacht Club and see the stunning views of the Bay of Islands. Alternatively, strike up a conversation with the friendly locals at the bar.

6. The Suva Curio Handicraft Market will be a winner for all arts and craft enthusiasts, with fine weaving, mats and cloths galore.

7. The Roman Catholic Cathedral, built in 1902, is a highlgiht of the architecture in Suva, and one of the more prominent landmarks worth checking out.

8. Head to the National Stadium of Fiji in Suva to watch an energetic game of football with the very vocal locals.

9. The Fiji Museum is a great way to learn more about the history and culture of Fiji, with informative exhibitions and free entry.

10. Check out the Kila Eco Adventure Park if you find yourself adrenalin-inclined. With a Zipline, Killer Giant Swing and Commando Course, this will keep you busy for the entire day.
