Tourism Fiji to expand reach with Pichler as chairman
By admin

Fiji Airways managing director and chief executive Stefan Pichler has been appointed as the new chairman of Tourism Fiji for a term of three years.

Upon the announcement, Pichler underlined his intention to immediately work to “step up” the tourism body’s efforts.

“I have developed a deep love of Fiji and its people and am fully committed to making our industry the best in the world for a nation of our size,” he said.

“We already have tremendous branding with our slogan Fiji: Where Happiness Finds You but there are parts of the world which our marketing effort has yet to reach and where there are great opportunities for expansion.”

The appointment represents a “new era” for Fiji’s tourism industry and economy as a whole, according to attorney general and minister for tourism Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

In addition to his airline credentials, Pichler has been chief executive of Thomas Cook AG, chair of German tourism body Bundersverband der Deutschen Tourismuswirtschaft and a member of the Tourism Australia and World Travel and Tourism Council boards.

"Stefan Pichler brings an unprecedented level of experience to this role, having held senior positions in the tourism industries of Germany and Australia,” Sayed-Khaiyum said.

“Coupled with his stewardship of our national airline, he is ideally placed to lead our industry and take it to new heights.”
