Garuda Indonesia will reinstate daily direct flights between Jakarta and Perth from June 28, with the airline reporting growing demand for the service.

The daily services will be operated by Garuda's B738 aircraft which also operate the existing twice daily Perth-Denpasar-Jakarta route.

Vice president Australia and South West Pacific, Bagus Y Siregar, underscored the importance of Western Australia for the airline.

"We've launched this new service in response to the growing demand, particularly from the business community," he said. "With the new non-stop flights, Jakarta is just five hours away, which makes it very convenient for our corporate travellers."

Siregar anticipated the service would also be popular with leisure travellers keen to visit the Indonesian capital, or to use it to fly onwards to other destinations.

Tourism Council WA chief executive Evan Hall said the new service is the result of months of negotiation.

"This Jakarta air service is about bringing Indonesia visitors to WA, rather than just WA tourists going to Bali," he said. "This new daily service will attract tourists, business travellers, conference delegates and international students alike from Indonesia and South East Asia."

In 2012, 32,000 Indonesians visited the state, with Hall expecting that number to increase this year on the back of the new service.
